Frequently Asked Questions
What is it?
The EDP Bidwells Norfolk Food Festival 2010 is a showcase for our county’s fantastic produce, an appreciation of the businesses and people that help produce, rear and grow it, and a promotion to increase a greater understanding of its importance to our general well-being.
How is the festival different from last year’s Norwich Food Festival?
The difference, and the reason that we are saying this is a new festival, is that we want the entire county to become involved. The events that have happened in the city in previous years, including the Moveable Feast, John Lewis Cookery Theatre at the Forum and the Battle of the Bangers competition, will stay take place, but there will now be many other events around Norfolk.
Why has the date moved forward?
The idea of having two weeks of events between September 18th and October 3rd is that the festival will run concurrently with the Great British Food Fortnight, when food will be top of the agenda across the country. It also coincides with harvest festival.
What other events are there?
The umbrella EDP Bidwells Norfolk Food Festival this year includes the EDP Norfolk Food Awards.
Can anyone get involved?
Absolutely! The more events the more we can help promote the story of Norfolk food and the wonderful fresh produce that comes from our county and our coast. We want butchers, bakers, fishmongers and other local food retailers; we want farm shops and farmers’ markets; we want pubs, hotels and restaurants.
Is there an educational aspect?
Definitely. Understanding why eating fresh local produce is good for our health, our environment and our communities is a key part of the festival remit.
How will we know what’s happening?
The two best ways are through this website and by reading the Eastern Daily Press, Norfolk’s morning newspaper and joint sponsor of the festival with Bidwells. Nearer the festival a special commemorative brochure will be published and the week before the festival begins the EDP will publish a Plough to Plate supplement, promoting Norfolk’s food story.
